The Latest Revision of ISO 9000
The latest revision of the ISO 9000 standard is due for publication by the end of 2015. ISO 9001:2015 will maintain the ISO 9001:2008 standard’s focus on process management and ensure that the standard remains relevant for ten or more years. This revision will also reflect changes in business practices, environments, and technologies that have occurred since the last substantial revision in the year 2000. The language will be broad enough to incorporate many different types of businesses, and the writing style will be simplified to aid in consistent universal interpretation. There will be a three-year transition period following the publication of the standard after which ISO 9001:2008 will be officially become out of date. The DIS 9001:2015 was released in May 2014 and is available for purchase through www.iso.org.
An external, impartial expert called a registrar conducts an on-site audit to determine whether or not a company is in conformance to the ISO 9001:2008 standard. If they are found to be in conformance, they will be issued a certificate showing their address, scope of operations and the seals of the accreditation bodies that give the registrar its legitimacy.
